Angry Verbs & A GIVEAWAY!!! :)

It's the weekend AND the first official day of my fall break! Can you I tell you again how happy I am with our new calendar?!?!  It breaks the whole year up & delivers a break when we all really need it.  However, yesterday at school, everyone was talking about their beach . . . mountain . . . enter fun place here . . . plans & I am cleaning. Yep, it's time to really clean this house!  After a $100 trip to Wal Mart for necessities and new cleaning supplies, I'm ready to get down with the cleaning.

BUT.. I wanted to share what we did with verbs first . . . AND my newest giveaway :)

VERB - it's an ACTION word!
We started the week with Pete the Cat & how he was definitely ROCKING in his school shoes.

Please excuse the grody board - it's got wax and tape on it & I CANNOT get it off.  Anyway, sorry...

We talked about what other kinds of things Pete could do in his school shoes.  The kiddos had to come up with something Pete wasn't doing in the book & write their own verb.  Then, we made Petes!

Usually, I'm kinda OCD about kids following a pattern, but this time I decided to leave it up to them. They had to make their own ears, tail, and legs & they turned out FANTASTIC!!!  Some of their cats are just hilarious!

Next, we read Down by the Cool in the Pool.  If you don't know this book, it's great & the kids love it.  We read it a million several times & decided to make our OWN book . . . "Down by the Cool. . . the Cool Kids in School". (catchy huh? haha)
This time, the kids had to come up with TWO verbs they do & complete a sentence for our class book.

I think these turned out so cute!!  And, the kids love reading their own class books. I put them in our "books of the month" bucket & they're always a favorite.

Lastly, it was all about Angry Birds . . . or Angry Verbs, as we called it.  I don't know about you, but my kids LOVE Angry Birds - they have the shirts, the lunchboxes, you name it.  So, I found this activity on Pinterest & adapted it to first grade.  You can see the post I found at Super Sweet Second Grade HERE. She had the kids writing stories with their angry verbs, but mine are just not ready for that, yet.

The kids each chose their favorite angry bird to make. Then, they had to come up with FIVE verbs that their bird would do.  They completed the sentences & made their birds.  This was a HUGE SUCCESS!!  The kids went just a wee bit nuts, but it was worth it :)
I made the construction paper patterns by looking at some coloring sheets I found on the internet.  I just traced the pieces & then the kids had to cut & glue.

Then, it turned out like this ! Yay :)

The last one kept adding -ing from our Pete activity, but I think he understood verbs, so I can't complain . . . just yet :)

The kids had a BLAST & I loved it too : )

Now on to the GIVEAWAY!!
I am so excited AND so thankful for 200+ followers. I can't believe it, to tell the truth! Y'all have been so sweet to me & I just love being part of this blogging community . So . . . I am having a giveaway!
